DnD Eve Of Ruin (Ep1)

So this will be the first entry into the blog for eve of ruin, this will be the first in the series I'm gonna do a few more and if there is interest I could continue this thought the whole campaign,

So let me know what you think?

As the session started, we had just completed a quest to help an elder white dragon recover its baby. We foolishly thought we had to slay the dragon at LVL 10 we opted for an easy resolution and some nicer magic items, to our disappointment we had to help the dragon and we stumbled across an ancient druid Bean ( who was previous character from and old campaign) who informed us this was a help quest LOL! After rescuing the baby white dragon her mother Avatraus died and our world tree fairy barbarian would leave and ensure the baby dragon flourished.

As we found ourselves on top of a mountain

 getting home

was a difficult task to accomplish,

 we found a goat Merchant

and brought 6 goats to travel

 home on Back to Neverwinter

We took a 3 month respite to

 heal and lick our wounds.

BOOOM, our keep door was kicked in from the outside the party awakes from slumber,

Aurelius the Cleric Shouts “ who the FUCK are you”  and draws his mace, the party forms behind him ready for combat We are greeted to a Ragged Ranger and her Green dragon pet The size of a Horse !!

(Now Doing a bit of Meta this ranger is our fairy barbarian replacement)

After some spicy words are shared we are interrupted by lord Neverwinter who informs us our skills are needed in a graveyard to the east, talks of ghouls and villagers being dragged away!

As a Cleric this is my wheelhouse. I rallied the party! “ No need for provisions”

I Walked the stable and saddled my horse! After being advised by the DM that this is not necessary I contradict him and say it is necessary. Who wouldn't want to see me in all my splendour riding atop a horse! As a cleric of Pelor ( or am I?) my armour radiates with the golden light of the sun!

After a short walk we reach a graveyard, a strange aura surrounds the place seemingly  sucking all the surrounding light into the darkness and a bitter chilli in the air.

I look at the party and they seem concerned, I cast light on my mace and kick my spurs intro and we gallop into the darkness, I shout “ show yourself fiends” as my golden light radiates across the graveyard and nothing a little anticlimactic but very strange. Where is this aura radiating from?

After an hour of searching the graveyard we found drag marks leading through to tombs towards the back of the graveyard, We follow of course and that's when we see and obvious sign of struggle  broken tombs ripped clothes and the drag mark lead up some steps to a big bronze of a mausoleum, the party hesitates, seeing his and as my duty as a cleric to kill all undead and fields I approach the door and performer a perfectly executed sparta kick, strangely with no resistance the door flies open, we enter the mausoleum and venture down to its depths,

As soon as we hit the first room

BOOM roll initiative,

We are faced with 4 Wights,

as you can see these are nasty little

Mother lovers, I roll surprisingly

high on the initiative and get

Second, I cast turn undead

and seer te two that fail their check,

Even with this these

guys proved to be a hard enemy for the party

Close quarters was

 definitely a challenge for us.

After a long grueling battle we defeated the wights and ventured further into the depths and we stumbled upon a grate with cold coins about 5 feet under the grate, totally safe and not conspicuous at all, on of our rouges decides to step on the grate and boom blade trap to the face She’ll be sore after that one! Our new ranger tried acid breath on the grate but to no avail! Luckily our second rogue Atarni figured this was a pressure trap and managed to spring and stop the mechanism resetting so we could get some gold YAY!

As we entered the next room, a long corridor leading to murmuring voices, we did our best to sneak up the corridor as we crested the room we saw a mage and 4 cultists in a room and we jumped straight in! Unfortunately no one had to foresight to realise the mage had the fireball spell! I casted insect plague to no avail and the party got blasted with about 5 fire balls consecutively. This was a very tough fight as the commotion roused the interest of 4 more ghouls and cultists from adjacent rooms. By the end of the fight the mage decided to kamikaze himself with one last fireball! Very funny but  we got absolutely battered but somehow managed to survive if somewhat…… crispy!

A small Investigate confirmed our worst fears, one one of the cultists drops a scrap of dried skin with an eye of Vecna clear as day!

And this is where we ended our session and Jesus, this one was a challenge!

I’ll keep you updated on the next one!

 Peace.
